I have started learning Apache Hadoop by installing it on Ubuntu. I tried installing on Windows through Cygwin but faced lot of challenges and finally couldn't run a sample program and then moved to Linux which I felt much convenient.
Read Hadoop Definitive Guide from Page to page. Practiced all the code examples given in the book. Also referred Hadoop in Action and Hadoop in Practice.
I don't have a real time experience on Hadoop. But have a good java programming knowledge and exposure to Unix administration which helped me to grasp the concepts with less effort.
Started with word count example and then read Hadoop documentation on the Apache site.
Clearing the exam is not easy. It requires thorough understanding of the concepts and a good hands on experience.
Exam is mixture of theory and code samples (Map reduce, Hive etc) and the questions would be covering all the topics.
During the last 1 week I have read the mock questions available on the internet and also gone through the interview questions (24 interview questions, Rohit Menon's blog) are helpful.
